A few simple customs go a long way when visiting Bhutan’s religious sites and homes.
Visiting dzongs and temples
Dress modestly, remove hats and shoes where indicated, and avoid pointing your feet toward statues or altars while seated. Photography is often restricted inside temple interiors — your guide will advise where it’s permitted.
General customs
Use your right hand (or both hands) when giving or receiving items. A calm, unhurried manner is appreciated, and it’s polite to follow your guide’s lead in unfamiliar settings.
