Best Time to Visit Bhutan
Spring and autumn offer the clearest skies and most festivals, while winter and summer suit specific interests.
Spring (March–May)
Rhododendrons and magnolias bloom across the valleys, skies are generally clear, and Paro Tshechu falls in this window. A popular season for both sightseeing and trekking.
Autumn (September–November)
Widely considered the best season overall — dry weather, sharp mountain views, and major festivals including Thimphu Tshechu. This is Bhutan’s peak travel period.
Winter (December–February)
Cold at altitude but dry and clear, with the lower Punakha valley staying mild. A good time for low-altitude touring and the Black-Necked Crane Festival in Phobjikha.
Summer (June–August)
The monsoon brings lush green valleys but also rain and cloud cover that can obscure mountain views. Fewer crowds, and a good season for those interested in flora.
