Haa

A remote, only-recently-opened valley of pastures and pine forest

  • Region: Western Bhutan
  • Elevation: 2,670 m

About Haa

Closed to foreign visitors until 2002, Haa remains one of Bhutan’s least-visited valleys. Its dramatic mountain backdrop and pastoral villages offer a quieter, more rural counterpoint to Paro and Thimphu.

Highlights

  • Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo temples
  • Chele La Pass, one of Bhutan’s highest motorable passes
  • Traditional Bhutanese picnics and farmhouse meals
  • Yak herder camps in summer
