Located in Gasa District within Jigme Dorji National Park, Laya offers one of Bhutan’s most remote and breathtaking treks. The drive from Thimphu to Gasa takes about five hours (170 km), followed by a new road halfway to Laya and a four-hour trek to reach the historic village.
Visitors can enjoy a dip at the Gasa Hot Springs, visit Gasa Dzong, and experience the unique lifestyle of Bhutan’s highlanders. The trails remain pristine, offering close-up views of the mighty Himalayas. Laya also forms part of the legendary Snowman Trek route — one of the world’s toughest trekking adventures.
