Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC)

The visionary Gelephu Mindfulness City is an initiative of His Majesty The King, designed to secure Bhutan’s economic future while upholding Gross National Happiness principles. Envisioned as a spiritual and economic hub connecting South and Southeast Asia, it spans 2,600 square kilometers in southern Bhutan, bordered by Assam and West Bengal, and flanked by Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary and Royal Manas National Park.

As His Majesty stated:

“South Asia is experiencing an unprecedented economic transformation… We are in a unique position to reap great benefits if we seize the opportunity, make good plans, and work together diligently.”

Anchored on mindfulness and sustainability, GMC’s economic focus areas include spiritualism, health and wellness, education and knowledge, green energy, digital assets, aviation and logistics, and eco-tourism. An international airport is already under construction, expected to handle 1.3 million passengers annually in its first phase.
