PHOBJIKHA

Nestled in Wangdue Phodrang District, about 130 km from Thimphu and 60 km from Punakha, Phobjikha Valley is a broad glacial plain home to the famous Gangtey Monastery of the Nyingma school.

Every winter, the graceful black-necked cranes migrate here from Tibet, circling the monastery three times upon arrival and before departure — a sight of spiritual significance.

The valley’s open meadows, scenic hiking and biking trails, and serene atmosphere make it ideal for meditation, wellness retreats, and hot stone baths. Visiting local villages offers a unique cultural experience.
